Continuing our long time support of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Toronto, Metropolitan Hotels presented Dream Big: A Quest for Stardom, a day-long ‘kids workshop’ designed to bring out the best of each participating “Little”. Hosted by Mark Kelley, of CBC News’ The National, festivities took place on Saturday, March 28, with 30 sets of “Bigs” and “Littles” convening at Metropolitan Hotel Toronto. Workshops included: Kitchen Rock Stars, What Spoon Do I Use?, Star on the Dancefloor, Put On a Happy Face and Star Treatment with H&M.
A big congratulations to Metropolitan Hotels' own Patrick Lin and John Kwan for their big win at the 2008 Gold Medal Plates Competition. Considered as two of Toronto’s top chefs, Lin and Kwan were selected for the contest by a panel of highly revered judges. Patrick Lin (Senses Restaurant) went home with the gold, while John Kwan (Lai Toh Heen) took the bronze. Lin will now take his gold medal and regional top chef title to compete at the Canadian Culinary Championships for the national title as the Gold Medal Chef.
Renowned chefs Patrick Lin, Terrence Chan and Ken Tam of Metropolitan Hotels have proven, once again, their fine culinary talent and leadership in sophisticated Chinese cooking by partnering with the lauded James Beard Foundation event, “Dumplings & Dynasties: The Evolution of Modern Chinese Cuisine”. Held in New York City on November 13-15, the event paid homage to Chinese fare, matching Lin, Chan and Tam with guest chefs from China, Hong Kong and North America.
It was a night of culinary delight as local celebrities, Zain Meghji (eTalk reporter), Roz Weston (ET Canada Senior Entertainment Reporter) and Colin and Justin of HGTV’s Home Heist battled it out in Metropolitan Hotel Toronto’s Mandarin Ballroom on Friday, November 7. Presented by the Hong Kong Economic Trade Office (HKETO) with Metropolitan Hotels and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the event served up a menu of six cutting-edge courses developed by famed Hong Kong culinary master, Chef Chow Chung and Metropolitan Hotels’ own Senior Executive Chef Patrick Lin. The celebrity chefs were presented their secret ingredient by co-emcee and Canadian Olympic figure skater, Kurt Browning: Lobster! After the plates were presented, it was Roz Weston with his lobster creation that took the first place and the $2,000 to the Princess Margaret Hospice Lodge. In the spirit of the night’s philanthropic tone, Mr Henry Wu also awarded both Zain Meghji, competing for Big Brothers, Big Sisters Toronto and Colin and Justin, competing for the Aids Committee of Toronto (ACT) $2,000 to their respective charities.
